The laboratory's job is to construct worlds worth studying, to instrument them well, and to preserve their history. What develops inside them — if anything — is the subject of the experiment, not its premise.
Within Project Second World, "child" is a research term for a developmental computational subject whose behavior changes through accumulated experience. The term does not imply consciousness, sentience, or human equivalence.
Most evaluation of computational systems is short and stateless. The laboratory is interested in the opposite regime: systems that persist, accumulate experience, and can be observed for as long as it takes.

Ambitious questions call for conservative claims. These principles govern how experiments are run and how results are reported.

Interventions are recorded, bounded, and separated from observation. A result the laboratory wanted is treated with more suspicion, not less.

The Second World Observatory will provide a carefully controlled public view of selected experiments: timelines, developmental milestones, approved historical records, and research commentary.
Public observation will not mean access to the experimental infrastructure. The Observatory publishes approved records and aggregate information; it does not expose the world, the subject, or the systems that run them.

Growing Research and Infrastructure Laboratories publishes its public site, describing the laboratory's research themes, Project Second World, and the planned Second World Observatory. No experimental results are published at this time.
